James A. Lindsey: James A. Lindsey, former Minneapolis resident and owner of Lindsey Engineering of Eden Prairie and a 30 year resident of Mesa AZ, passed away on September 30, 2006 from cancer at age 90. A retired Civil Engineer, he was active in many Engineering and Surveying Societies including ASCE, MSPE and MSES and was the first president of the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce. Served as Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII. Survived by 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and brother Ray Lindsey. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Lenore and two sisters. He received recognition from the Mesa FOS Homeowners and Community Associations for his volunteer efforts. Jim was an active volunteer for the Mesa Chapter of SCORE for over 17 years, counseling people starting their own businesses. He received local and national awards for his work and leadership in SCORE including the Gold Achievement Award which is their highest national award given.  Also he loved rock hunting in the desert and hiking around Mesa. There will be a memorial service at Colonial Church of Edina on November 11 at 11:00 A.M. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials are requested to the Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society Scholarship Trust Fund, a (501)(c)(3) charitable education trust.  (submitted by James' son, James, Jr.)

William Parmeter: 86, passed away at home Aug. 15, 2006 from cancer. Preceded in death by wife, Paisley; daughter, Marcia Getman; and granddaughter, Melissa Getman. Survived by daughters, Paisley Munson and Nancy Stewart (Bernie); 7 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; loving companion, Gerd Corbett. Godfrey "Goodey" Love: age 80, of St. Paul, passed away quietly May 17, 2006. A veteran of WWII he served in Europe as a member of the 294th Field Artillery Observation Battalion before returning to the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree in 1949. Following several years of working for the Minnesota State Highway Dept. he joined the Walter Butler Construction Co. and later the Carlson Companies where he played a significant role in the renovation of the Minaki Lodge in Canada, Kansas City's Muhlenberg Hotel, Southwest State College, and the new Federal Court Building in St. Paul, retiring in 1988. Preceded in death by parents, Nathan and Rose; brothers, Hyman (Hy) and David (Doots) and special friend, Phyliss Black. Survived by nephew, Eddie (Sally) Love and niece, Naomi (David) Beck (CA); sister- in-law, Mindy Love (CA); several grandnieces and grandnephews; friends, Ken and Joyce Madole, John and Pat Strojan, the Birthday Club - Jo Zimmar, Lou Shaughnessy, Len Pegler, Phyllis Bigbee, Tom and Pam Mariska; friend, Sue Adamek, and many relatives and cousins. Lawrence A. "Larry" Hoben: age 68, of St. Cloud, died March 13 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Larry was retired from MnDOT in St. Cloud, MSES members since 1977.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 PM on Monday, March 20, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Burial with full Military Honors will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 21, at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 PM on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and after 11:30 AM on Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday. John P. Badalich: Lifetime So. St. Paul resident Age 79, on February 2, 2006.  John was an active Life Member of MSES, joining in 1957. Miles Kersten: a retired civil engineering professor at the University of Minnesota who was known for his expertise in soil mechanics and highway engineering, died of complications from strokes in Minneapolis on Sunday, September 4, 2005. The St. Paul native and Minneapolis resident was 92.  His wife, Eveline, whom he married in 1938, died in 2004.  He is survived by a son, Thomas of Bloomington; a daughter, Cynthia Kersten Doran of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Because of Miles' work for the transportation industry, the MSES/Miles Kersten Land Grant Chair was established at the University of Minnesota. Douglas Dean Bjornberg: age 61, Mendota Heights, died at his home on Friday, July 15, 2005 after a two year battle with cancer. Lawrence (Bud) A. Mattson: 90, of Lindstrom, MN, passed away July 12, 2005.  Bud was one of the founders of Shafer Contracting Co, father of George Mattson, also active MSES member.  Preceded in death by parents & 2 brothers. Bud was active in the highway construction business in Minnesota for 60 years retiring in 1995. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, & friend. Survived by wife Linda; daughters Judy Matteson, Jenny Duarte, Katy (Chad) Winecke, & Meghan (Kirk) Berglund; son George (Marilyn) and also many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. Russell Kauzlaric Obituary: age 62, of Duluth, died suddenly at his home in Duluth on July 5, 2005. His survivors include his spouse, Kristianne Kauzlaric, a son, a daughter and one brother. Russ was assistant district engineer for program delivery with Duluth/District 1. Kauzlaric’s Mn/DOT career began in 1966 when he joined the department at District 1. He served in various engineering and managerial posts until he was appointed as an ADE in 1994, and had planned to retire next year.

W. Stan Ekern Obituary:Former Deputy Commissioner,Chief Engineer and 43 year veteran with the Minnesota Highway Department, passed away on November 16, 2004 at 96 years of age.  In last hours he was surrounded by his family and passed on peacefully. Born October 25, 1908 in Barlow, Oregon. Former Deputy Commissioner/Chief Engineer with 43 years of service to the MN Highway Department. Married Florence Ziebarth on November 28, 1936. Preceded in death by wife, Florence; son, James. He will be sadly missed by son, David; grandchildren, Missy Ekern, Mike (Becky) Ekern; daughters-in-law, Judy Ekern, Jan Ekern (Dave Robinson).
